SEDATION DENTISTRY

Overcoming your Dental Phobia through Sedation Dentistry

It is not uncommon for patients of all ages to have a fear of dentists, whether it is because of a traumatic childhood incident or anxiety related to the dental procedure being done. Our office provides the most trusted dental relaxation technique for millions of children and adults, Nitrous Oxide, to help ease our patient’s fears. Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas”, is a gas used in combination with pure oxygen.

What to Expect

Nitrous Oxide is fast-acting, and within minutes you will feel the soothing relaxation. When inhaled through a scented mask and absorbed by the body, it provides a natural calming effect that lasts only as long as the dental procedure.  The feeling is best described as a warm, tingling sensation in the arms and legs and sleepiness. Nitrous Oxide is known as the safest sedative used in dentistry today for both adults and children. It is mild, non-toxic, and even recommended for patients with certain medical conditions (such as high blood pressure and angina). Unlike general anesthesia, patients sedated with nitrous oxide remain fully conscious and responsive. The level of sedation is easily adjustable to allow you to be comfortable.

Results

Nitrous oxide is the only form of sedation that has no after-effects, and will not impair driving. After completion of dental treatment, the nitrous oxide will be turned off and 100% oxygen will be administered for 10 minutes to completely remove the effects of the nitrous oxide. For apprehensive children or adults, nitrous oxide can be the solution to relieve your fears and ensure a positive experience at our office. It is highly effective to calm nerves while allowing vital dental treatments to be done to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Call our clinic in Simcoe, Ontario, to discuss the possibility of using nitrous oxide sedation for your next dental procedure.
