X-RAYS FOR CHILDREN

There is no standard timetable for when your child’s mouth should be X-rayed. The need varies with the child’s development and dental health. If your child has had many cavities and fillings or has a high risk of tooth decay, it is recommended X-rays every six months. This can help to detect cavities developing between teeth. Whether X-rays are needed also depends on how well your child brushes and flosses, and your child’s diet. Description The need for dental X-ray films varies for each child. They are most likely taken to identify potential problems unseen by a visual exam. Generally, children need X-rays more often than adults as their mouths are still growing and changing. FLUORIDE APPLICATION

FLUORIDE APPLICATION Fluoride is a dental treatment that can help prevent tooth decay, slow it down, or stop it from getting worse. Fluoride varnish is made with fluoride, a mineral that can strengthen tooth enamel (outer coating on teeth). Keep in mind that fluoride treatments cannot completely prevent cavities. Fluoride treatments can best help prevent decay when a child is also brushing using the right amount of toothpaste with fluoride, flossing regularly, getting regular dental care, and eating a healthy diet. SEALANTS TO PROTECT YOUR CHILD´S TEETH

Sealants to protect your child´s teeth Sealants are one of the best ways to protect your child’s teeth. Sealants that are used on your child’s teeth are a clear or tooth colored coating (sealant) that is bonded to the chewing surfaces of your child’s molars and premolars. This forms a hard coating to protect your child from food and bacteria in the grooves in the teeth and causing decay. Children should have sealants to protect their molars and premolars, on average a typical toothbrush cannot get into the grooves of these teeth so it is crucial to protect them with sealants, otherwise their teeth can be exposed to bacteria and decay resulting in tooth loss or costly procedures. Many insurance companies will cover if not all, or most of the costs for sealants. A good age to bring your child in for sealants would be between 5-7 when their 6 year molars come in, and 11-14 when their 12 year [...]

WE HAVE NEVER REGRETTED IT – LORI

When we moved to Caledonia 20 years ago, we were looking for a new Dentist. Dr. Alan Macdonald was the one we were told we needed to go to. We booked our appointment right away and we have never regretted it. The staff is amazing, they know us by name and makes us feel great. Seeing them all out in the Community is also a plus. Dr. Macdonald is involved with sponsoring soccer and the kids the goodies that sometimes he provides. We would not go anywhere else. Lori Elgin
